dagster (quantile-development variant)

The dagster utility is an orchestrator that allows for workflows to be programmatically authored, scheduled, and monitored.

EDK Based Plugin

This utility is based on the Meltano Extension Developer Kit (EDK) which is the preferred way to build and add non-Singer plugins to Meltano Hub. For more information about the EDK, please read this section of the Meltano docs. If you have any feedback or suggestions, add them to the EDK repo.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

If you haven't already, follow the initial steps of the Getting Started guide:

  1. Install Meltano
  2. Create your Meltano project

Installation and configuration

  1. Add the dagster utility to your project using
    meltano add
    :
  2. meltano add utility dagster
  3. Configure the dagster settings using
    meltano config
    :
  4. meltano config dagster set --interactive

Dagster Home (dagster_home)

  • Environment variable: DAGSTER_DAGSTER_HOME
  • Default Value: $MELTANO_PROJECT_ROOT/.meltano/dagster

The home folder of Dagster.


Configure this setting directly using the following Meltano command:

meltano config dagster set dagster_home [value]

Repository Directory (repository_dir)

  • Environment variable: DAGSTER_REPOSITORY_DIR
  • Default Value: $MELTANO_PROJECT_ROOT/orchestrate/dagster

The root folder of the Dagster project.

meltano config dagster set repository_dir [value]

Commands

The dagster utility supports the following commands that can be used with
meltano invoke
:

describe

  • Equivalent to: describe

Describe the Dagster Extension.

meltano invoke dagster:describe [args...]

initialize

  • Equivalent to: initialize

Initialize the Dagster extension.

meltano invoke dagster:initialize [args...]

start

  • Equivalent to: -f $REPOSITORY_DIR/repository.py

Start Dagster.

meltano invoke dagster:start [args...]
